You can move the site any time you want! All you are doing is changing your nameservers to point to their “parked web page”. If you want to develop the site, you will just point to your website host. The move would take just a couple of minutes. Remember that Nameservers are just the location where your website lives (your “hosting” or “server”). In this case, Sedo is hosting the site for free and putting up an advertising page on your behalf (and sharing the profits with you).
The only other one that I have tried lately is NameDrive. I don’t know if they allow names, but it is worth a shot (they are a bit more “rough” than Sedo).
Hey Samir, I kind of need to see it to understand more about the white space. I’m sure it is just a CSS definition, but which one, I don’t know without seeing the past. Feel free to post the site. cheers…matt
I know, it kind of caught me off guard, too. The other two that showed some significant traffic is Buzzle and, to lesser extent, ArticlesBase. Still, I submit to plenty others which collectively bring in a heap of traffic, too. This stuff really works! cheers…amtt
Vent all you like! I feel your pain and frustration. The thing I keep telling myself is “it is just not fair”. But that, of course is wasted energy. Yes, you can do things like change IPs, credit cards, emails, etc. And, depending on why you were banned, I may consider it. If it is something as stupid as the nature of your site (which is was in my case), the likelihood of them banning me again is a bit high. Not worth my time or effort.
I have been doing more with Yahoo lately, too. They have been nothing but awesome to me. I can talk to real people on the phone and they work with me not only with making sure I meet their specifications, but they help optimize my stuff in a more personal way (unlike Google and their automated…waste of time and money…optimizer).
About Google TV ads…personally, I have never done them. I would be surprised, though, if they banned your from that, too. The banner (which is a function of their quality score) usually affects only their paid search. (I can still do content search…even YouTube search). So if you think your business follows the model, you might try TV ads.
But no matter what we do, we still need Google to some extent and they can help bring us traffic. My point: don’t put all of your eggs in the Google basket…they are like a big fat hen who may accidentally sit and break them! (enough bad metaphors for the day!).
Stephen, you bring up a good point here…and that is the J.O.B. and this is one major reason why this works (and how I was able to achieve success initially while working 9-5 every day). If you don’t have time to write, invest in a writer who can. In this example, I use $20, but finding $10 writers is achievable, too. Or, like I did it, I would just write an article during my lunch break and post it. Article writing is perhaps the BEST foundation you can create for your website without committing much to it at all. cheers….matt
P.S. I got your email form and responded to it…hopefully you get it!
Your point is well taken. Quality is extremely important and most effective. Still, the way that algorithms work online, quantity is a factor…and so is duplicate content. I built a lot of my online business based solely on QUALITY articles, but I was able to take it to the “next level” with I incorporated a large quantity of articles on top of it, too. I do believe that you NEED the quality articles to effectively use quantity articles, but it won’t work the other way around.
If you are just starting, FOCUS ON QUALITY. It will work and you will get rankings and a good social following for it. Then, you can get a little more “gray hat” and beef up the popularity of THOSE articles to make them even stronger.
I totally agree about automation tools, even outsourcing, for some of your article marketing efforts. You can do it yourself, but it is usually quite affordable and efficient to invest in some tools and people to do some of the work for you! cheers…matt
Amen! I think that is my biggest problem, too. If I did something wrong, please just tell me! I have combed through their terms and conditions and I can speculate what they may have banned me for, but then again, it would have been minor and a little bit of heads of and working WITH me would have gone far. If Google doesn’t want my 6-figure paycheck, I personally think it is just bad business on their part.
From what I have been hearing these days, PayPal is just fine. I have my own “other” concerns about PayPal and they can be just as ruthless when it comes to shutting down your account, but in this case, I have not heard of any troubles with it. Also, I am hearing a little bit of “pull-back” from the initial merchant account Visa shut-down. I received a new message re-stating the terms from my merchant which kind of brings negative options back (with a LOT of disclosure…fair enough!). Personally, I use both PayPal and a merchant account, just in case! (both have their pluses and minuses!). Cheers…matt
Good point, and one that is very relevant. In fact, my merchant has put my account on 100% reserve until I remove this payment offer. I’m kind of peeved about this, too. I do very clearly state the future payments in my shopping cart. Some people can still get away with it. I know Clickbank is still doing it (and I may move over there while I take care of this). But yes, this does affect me. cheers..matt
Sounds like you have the right state-of-mind and more importantly, you are taking action! That is how to do it! And one thing to take away from “slow” years like 2009 is that it is a great opportunity to start growing and positioning yourself for when the economy starts to recover again (which it will). I know I have tons of stuff coming out for 2010 that is exciting! Can’t wait to see your stuff, too.
You know where to find me, let me know how things go! Happy New Year!
cheers…matt
P.S. Like you were talking about, I have some posts on “automation”, the other side of outsourcing, coming up on Monday!
I am going to try to stay “unbiased” here, but go with me for a second…
First, I am watching how these gurus are handling the new FTC regulations, too. There has been this steady “unrest” in the home business niche for the last few weeks now while many people are trying to mold their current, aggressive marketing campaigns to comply with new FTC rules and guidelines.
Some are pulling out. Others are trying to re-invent their business. Others are using it to their advantage in their copy. I think that is what we are seeing from Mike here.
Understand that Mike is an aggressive marketer who follows fundmental funnel marketing very well. I do personally think this current offer is fair, though (suffice it to say, it is laden with up-sells, down-sells, and every other sell you can think of). At the end of the day, we all have choices. I have chosen to buy some of Mike products in the past and decline others. I have also bought products and returned them I have not liked (this no problems) while there have been strategies I have learned from him that have made me a lot of money.
I personally like Mike’s new marketing strategies and don’t consider them lies, either. Just marketing. cheers…matt
I think I was wondering the same thing — Is Google just “big enough” not to even care about their customers? This is what I think hurt the most. I admit (after the fact) that I did break a term in their agreement (and believe me, this was not intentional and it took me awhile to figure it out). I would have removed it immediately if I knew (or if someone from Google would even tell me). But this is all black and white to them, especially being an affiliate marketer in a home based niche.
I, too, have been revisiting other niche campaigns and have designed very conservative sites specifically catered towards Adwords. But like I say, this is focusing more on testing than a long-term traffic source.
I don’t know where business is going when a 6-figure paying client (like myself) can be treated as worthlessly as Google Adwords has treated me. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it makes me sad, especially since I have supported, taught, and recommended this service for so long.
Hey Cory…I totally agree. Greed can be a powerful motivator for some people and it can really do awful things to you, your family and your business. Unfortunately, these people are tough to stop because they really don’t have any care for others. All you can do it protect yourself the best that you can and be wary of what they can do (and stop it before it is too late).
You bring up some really interesting points here (enough for a full blog post for Monday!). But the one thing I do want to point out (and something you do) is NOT to rely on “The Man” (you know…in this case it’s Google/YouTube). Google and YouTube are very powerful and can really help build and create businesses online, but don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. Having the ability to host your own videos (either locally or on places like Amazon S3) only makes your business more robust. I used to use Blip.tv a lot for my videos, which like yours are mostly educational, yet you will never be able to beat a human review who simply does not understand you.
I have a few more points about networking marketing and home biz, but I’ll save that for a bigger and better post on Monday.
Like your blog (http://askjohnchatman.com/), by the way…I’ll start following your stuff, too!
There is that reality of feeling rather low for being punished while following the rules…but it sometimes takes something like a banning to re-evaluate and improve your business. cheers…matt
Really enjoyed meeting ya, Shawn! I also got to sit in on one of your sessions, too, which was good. Thanks for the props on the Affiliate Summit website, too. Don’t know if we’ll meet again at Affiliate Summit in January, but I know we’ll get to do this again sometime in the future! cheers…matt
