As search engines continue to develop, they strive to provide the searcher with the most optimal result for their query, but no one is perfect, even search engines!
For the second time in over a month I have conducted a search on Google that resulted in an unexpected result. Here is what I was doing: I was conducting research on different types of dropshipping methods and one idea that came to mind was using Amazon as a dropshipper. This idea came about from the fact that I was researching the topic of wholesaling books and at some point I was starting to realize that I could buy the titles cheaper on Amazon. So, naturally, I typed “amazon dropshipping” into a search engine. The first 4 organic results described Amazon’s dropshipping model of business. This is not what I was looking for. The 5th result was an article. Hey, now we are getting somewhere!
What? I clicked onto the link to realize that it was an article that *I* wrote. I was conflicted with emotion. First I was really annoyed! Here I am trying to research a topic to learn more about amazon dropshipping and the only real result that pops up is my own article. It does include the words “Amazon” and “dropshipping” within the context of the article, but they are really loosy related.
Then I started to think about it a little bit and thought, WOW!, this is very cool. I spend tons of time trying to optimize other keywords and phrases (that also in time appear where they are intended), but as a by-product of the hard work, I am also appearing for searches that I have never thought about.
This strengthens my support for SEO. Some still believe that SEO is pointless. Was this search result targeted? Maybe not directly, but for someone looking into Amazon as a dropshipping alternative may find other suggestions and ideas that is included in the article that appears. Secondly, this is FREE! If the result has quality or not does not make a difference to me as long as I do not pay for. It is free branding of my product and name and no one can fault me for what the search engine is providing them.
In conclusion, Search Engine Optimization is great not only for targeting relevant keywords, but it also may target the forgotten keywords (and in some cases the irrelevant keywords, too!).

My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...
