Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

(We will return to the Frustrated Affiliate Marketer next week)

I want to digress here for a second to write about something that has been gnawing at me for the last couple of weeks.  I don’t know if it is the season or the weather or perhaps a full moon, but I have been reading a lot of emails and forum posts from some very disgruntled people lately.  This week alone I have been called a scam artist, a cheat, an a-hole, a jerk, a fraudster, and a liar (just to name a few).  Personally, I know this comes with the territory but it does bother me when I read these things (and I have yet to find one of them with any merit).

This week alone, I have had three requests for refunds on TheWebReviewer for my eBook Secret2Succeed and people telling me that I ripping them off.  How much do I charge for this?  NOTHING.  It is free.  I take no credit cards.  Nothing. At first I was worried that someone may be trying to sell it or rip me off…but no.  (I also had a return request for Norton Anti-Virus…huh?  Where the heck did this come from).

And this is not just being directed at me, either.  I spend a lot of time in the forums these days and I read about people who have spent their $70 on some eBook, set up some Google Adwords and 4 days later (and $100 down on PPCs) these same people are plastering the word “scam” and “fraud” all over the place.

Another one that people are angry about is Doba.  They offer a 7-day free trial.  After 7-days they will charge your credit card with the full amount if you do not cancel prior.  This is a simple process.  Yet when they confront Doba on Day 20 wanting their money back and they don’t get it back, they get angry and claim they are a scam.  I have participated in the trial and was able to cancel out rather easily.  It was not very hard to do.  This is all clearly stated in there terms, as well. And understand that Doba is an extremely reputable company.

Here are a few things you wish everyone would understand but they do not:

1)  Buying a $50 eBook (or $1000 eCourse) does not entitle you to wealth.  Online marketing is a real business and all of the rules of success and failure still apply here.

2)  Understand what you are buying and who you are buying it from.  The fact that people are requesting refunds from me only tells me that some people do not have a clue what they are buying online.

3)  Yes, there are plenty of scams out there and you need to be wary of what you are getting into.  Most products are guaranteed.  If you do not like it, return it.  Understand how to return a product before you buy (and if they do not offer a guarantee, then assess the risks and rewards).

I really hate writing a post like this because it really only targets a very small group of people.  This is common sense to most of us.  Still, the crusades that people seem to go on to discredit reputable business practice is enormous.  I always think that if you took the effort that is taken to be angry at the online marketing industry and redirect it into an online business, these people would probably be making money themselves.

  1. I think it is amazing that there are people around who want something for nothing and when they get it all they do is complain. I just want you to know there are people out there who want to rip you off. I can’t count the times I have “almost” been taken. Please be careful of what you sign up for. Read and research before you sign up for anything.

  2. There has to be very careful research into a program that is intended to be used by a participant and you can not get something for nothing in this world. There are people out there that would like nothing more than to scam someone, they get there kicks from it. Then there are people like Matt Bredel that want to help people make the right decisions with insightful content to legit programs on the net to garner income from. I have been scammed bad on the net before, I could write a book about it but would rather help people to not get taken.
