Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

Everyone hears about blogging these days, but the question in your head is probably: Why should *I* blog?

When I first got into the online money making business, I had heard of blogs (or “web logs”), but really I did not have much interest in them.  A bunch of my friends had blogs where they wrote silly things about what they dreamt last night, or what they ate for dinner, or they posted a favorite poem of theirs.  I kind of said to myself “who cares”.  Why should I waste my time writing a web log entry when I can be doing more important stuff online (like making money!).

“Who cares?”  Well, the answer to this question is a lot of people!  In fact, the people who care about this the most are the two most important entities currently on the world wide web:

  1. Search Engines
  2. Web Surfers

Why do search engines care so much about blogs?  Simple!  Blogs provide the world with a lot of good, unique and consistant CONTENT!  This is what the world wide web is all about:  CONTENT and INFORMATION.  If you have something to say in the world that is different from everyone else, it fills another little hole in the enormous ether-space of the web.  If I chose to write about “Green 3-Eyed Lizards”, for example, the search engines want to know about it and index it just in case someone else in the world wants to learn more about this.

Which brings us to the second important entity:  Visitors!  Even though *I* thought that my friends blogs were kind of stupid, other people find them fascinating.  There are a lot of people surfing the web and only if one-millionth of a percentage actually visit your blog, you will find yourself with a relatively large amount of traffic.

Blogs create a few great things:

  • Traffic
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Earnings!

Since search engines love content, blogs seem to get indexed rather quickly.  Visitors and readers can create backlinks which improves your page rank.  Then, you can share this page rank with other websites that you manage (while giving it a little bit of traffic, too).  Or, if page rank is not what you care about, I am sure advertising is!  People make 6-figure salaries just by writing blogs.  At this level, SEO is important. But blogging for money, whether it is a few dollars per day or a thousand dollars per day, is still one of the best (and easiest!) ways of being heard, gathering traffic, building SEO, and even making a little (or a lot!) of money online today.

One Response to “Why Should You Blog?”

  1. I started blogging to be able to get feedback from people about my eBook, and to tell people about my eBook, to be able to ‘Pre-sell’ it.

    That way to make them curious enough to have them wanting to take a look at the Sales Page in my Webstore. This probably counts as ‘Creating Earnings’.

    As a side effect I also discovered ‘Affiliate Marketing’, and ‘Adsense’ etc. etc. creating even more Earnings.

    All the Best,
    HP
