My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...
A common question to making money online is “Where do I get started?”. We have a tendency to go out buy all of these great programs and strategies to build a business online, but find ourselves scratching our heads with information over-load and trying to determine the first course of action. Today, I tell you where to start.
Just Starting.
These words mean two things to me, both for the same people. For those of you “just starting” in this world of internet marketing and making money on the internet, be sure to read this because it is the true Secret to success.
What’s the secret? Simple…Just Starting!
As you can imagine, I get a lot of emails about “where to start” online. People buy online money making products by the bussel and 2 years later come and say to me:
“I’ve been studying and reading a lot about different ways of making money online but I am not sure which way to go?”
The question is actually a good one, but it is one that I think people:
1) Dwell too much upon
2) An excuse
So let’s stop dwelling and making excuses and start focusing in on “where to start”. And the answer is simple:
Just Start.
To be more exact and keep it simple: Just Start a Blog.
If you have purchased ANY online money making book or product in the last 30 days and have not “Just started” yet, today is the day to begin.
Almost everything you do online to make money can benefit from a blog.
- It is search engine candy for rankings
- It is social marketing at its finest
- It will help you reduce Pay-Per-Click costs
- It is a website
- It is a perfect “practicing ground” for almost everything else you choose to do later online (I hate to use the word “sandbox” here, because it has such a negative connotation in the online marketing world)
Just Start.
If you can write an email, you can do this!
Personally, I think it is better to start off with your own personalized Wordpress blog. Yes, this does cost usually around $6/month for hosting and about $10/year for your own custom domain name. But it is yours and you can do whatever you want with it.

But STILL, I need you to just GET STARTED.
If you don’t have the money to start a custom Wordpress blog, go and create a free Blogger.com blog. This literally takes about 5 minutes to set up and writing a post is like writing an email.
Yes, with the Wordpress Blog Set-Up Offer above, I do get an affiliate commission for it, but I would rather see you just start something today and forgo the commission than to see you get stumped here! At a MINIMUM, go and start a Blogger. com blog right now!
And I know your next question, too:
“What I am going to write about?”
- Well, if you already have some ideas of products or niches you want to sell or promote online, that is your best avenue.
- If you don’t know what you want to do, start a blog on something you already know about, like or are passionate for.
- And if all else fails, just start writing about yourself or your family!
I finally convinced my sister to create a Wordpress blog at http://www.sdmommy.com. She writes about herself, her kids and her running…and she is loving it! Is she making money from it? Not yet, but she will!
“So how much and how often should I write?”
I think at a minimum, 3 times per week. If you can write every day, though, that is best. The more often you write, the faster your blog will grow. Right now you want to train both the search engines and your readers on how often you plan to post, so be consistent. (7 post one week and 0 the next is not a good strategy).
The posts don’t have to be long, either. I would say 300 words minimum.
“So then what?”
This is where all of your studies and learning will start to pay off. You will learn to now find products to sell and/or market. Maybe you will add some Adsense to your blog. Maybe you will develop a following and become an authority?
You now have a website that is now growing and place for you start really start applying the strategies you are learning about.
Believe it or not, but making money online is very easy…it just may take a little bit of grunt work, writing, trial and error to GET it STARTed!
