Once you get the coveted top spot on major search engines, is your work done? Sadly, no. But there’s good news, too!
Once you get the coveted top spot on major search engines, is your work done?
Sadly, no.
Search engine optimization should be a constant process for internet marketers. You’ll find that once you get to the top spot, it might not be too difficult to stay there for long, depending on which keywords you’re ranking for and whether or not you’re getting top spot for a highly competitive keyword. But, the more competition you have in your niche, the more chances that someone is going to be constantly working to de-throne you.
Not allowing yourself to become complacent is a good strategy for ensuring that you don’t get knocked off page one altogether overnight.
Here are some strategies for working on SEO regularly:
-Continuously check your website statistics to see where your traffic is coming from and what your conversion rates are.
-Regularly do keyword research so you can determine which keywords you should be targeting and anchoring. Keywords change in terms of traffic and search engines so it’s a good idea to stay on top of trends for your niche.
-Vary your approach. Today you might work on off-page SEO and tomorrow you might add a blog post with some intrasite hyperlinks. Tomorrow you might write a web 2.0 page such as a Squidoo Lens or a HubPage that anchors text back to your main site
-Keep reading! Stay in the know by constantly learning about your niche and about the latest SEO tips. By doing this, you’ll ensure you’re always ahead of the curve and don’t get left in the dust by competition that is staying on top of trends.
So, SEO is a constant work in progress but the good news is once you’ve gotten established, the time commitment shrinks while the results can increase. And, as you learn new tips and techniques, you can definitely increase your conversion rates, your traffic numbers, and improve your online success.

My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...
