Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

With so many social media tools to choose from, how do you know which ones to invest time in? There are dozens and dozens of tools that people use to help them network with people and improve their site’s SEO. Here are my top favourite tools to use for my blogs and internet marketing efforts.

With so many social media tools to choose from, how do you know which ones to invest time in? There are dozens and dozens of tools that people use to help them network with people and improve their site’s SEO. Here are my top favourite tools to use for my blogs and internet marketing efforts.

EzineArticles

Ezinearticles.com is an article directory that offers free articles for syndication. It is the top one and while they have strict editorial guidelines, the articles go viral and get plenty of traffic. Article marketing is a great way to build brand recognition, increase your online profile, and pre-sell potential customers. Write a great byline to get people who read these articles to want to click through to your website.

YouTube Video Marketing

Internet video marketing is still in its infancy in terms of popularity. YouTube gets an incredible amount of traffic and beyond that, you can put your YouTube videos elsewhere and people will pick them up and embed them in their site as well. People love moving pictures and can be compelled to visit your site to learn more about you after they’ve watched some of your videos. If you haven’t yet experienced the power of video marketing, it’s time to take a closer look!

Twitter

Microblogging is a pretty cool way to connect with others. In 140 characters or less you can make new friends, network with potential business partners, improve your site’s SEO, and learn a whole lot about making money online. Twitter is growing in popularity on a daily basis and it still has a huge amount of potential for those looking for improved SEO and a way to connect with potential customers and gurus who can teach you a lot about your niche.

StumbleUpon

There are a lot of social bookmarking tools out there but the one I’ve had the most personal success with is StumbleUpon. This site allows you to stumble and be stumbled. You can stumble through cyberspace to find things related to categories you specify and you can rank those sites based on whether you recommend them or not. On the flip side, you can submit your own sites with categories and reviews and let other people interested in that topic look as well. If others give your site a thumbs up, you can get a lot of traffic because the more positive reviews, the more users that will see it. I get a lot of traffic from this site and because I’m careful about the way I categorise sites of my own, I get decent conversion rates as well.

MyBlogLog

MyBlogLog does a lot for me. It is a blog directory that brings me traffic to my many blogs but it also does so much more:

• It gives me a quick place to check traffic stats of all the blogs I list,
• It shows me faces of other members that have been on my blog and allows me to connect to their blogs or communicate via public or private message with them as well as shows my little chicklet on their blogs when I visit them
• It lets each of my blogs have a little online community that I can communicate with or stay in touch with,
• And the MyBlogLog widget is very cool as it works like a life streaming widget that I place on websites. It has quite a few of my other services listed so is a living widget that changes regularly to help me show others where else I (and my articles or updates) can be found online.

There are a lot of reasons you should make use of social media tools. They can do a lot for your online business.

What are your favourite social media tools, and why?

Cheers,
Dana
