Are you familiar with this technique called article spinning? Let’s step back really quickly and review off-page Search Engine Optimization. One of the most effective ways of getting high position in search engine organic results is to collect backlinks. These are links from other sites pointing to your website. Trading links (called reciprocal linking) is a good way of doing this, but an even better way to get more meaningful links is when the link is one-way (meaning, you are not linking back to the referred website). One way of doing this is to write articles and then submit these to article directories. Most article directories allow you to place a hyperlink in the signature or biography of the article. Instant one-way links!
Of course, the problem is that writing a quality article can take time. So how can you streamline this process? Content spinning is the concept of taking an article and creating multiple variations of it by swapping out words, phrases and even paragraphs of similar content. Realize that if you have n sets of terms, each with 2 variations, you can create n^2 articles. So if you have 10 terms with two variables and you spun all of these variations, you would have 100 unique articles.
Of course, having a 500 word article with only 1 word differetial is not really considered different. In fact search engines, such as Google are becoming wise to spinning and duplicate content. If Google feels that the content is the same or too similar, it will discredit all of the duplicates (and possibly place the original article in the supplemental index). Right now, some argue that greater than 25% original content is required. I personally think you need more. Plus, there is always the issue of an article becoming incoherent after it has been spun (You still need the article to be editted and approved). Old, Google Adsense websites used to get away with this, but again, search engines are becoming smarter and more knowledgable of grammar.
So is article spinning dead? To some extent, Yes! The days of spinning a single article into hundreds of good backlinks is gone. Still, I do article spin, but not hundreds. I focus more on spinning full paragraphs. For example, I will write three intros, three bodies, and three conclusions into 27 articles. Nine of these will be approximately 67% unique while the other 18 articles will be 33% unique. I have achieved two things:
- A low duplicant content ratio
- A very grammatically correct article
Understand, too, that most article directories are not worth a thing. There are a dozen or so sites that are worth submitting to. Yes, there is still a lot of work involved, but getting 27 for the price of 3 is still better than a one-for-one ratio.

My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...
