Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

Video marketing has taken the online business world by storm and has been labeled the wave of the Internet marketing future. Should you take advantage of this marketing tool to boost your business?

I can still remember a few years ago talking with my husband about this idea of video marketing and how it was going to change the marketing world. At the time, it seemed strange to imagine that so many people would turn to videos instead of blogging or in place of articles and advertisements to promote their products and services.

Now, it seems so normal….and well, time has shown, that video marketing really works!

Marketers in every industry and niche imaginable are experiencing major increases in traffic thanks to implementing this tool into their marketing arsenal. While some people are using it to launch and advertise products, others are using video as an educational tool to add value to their site and what they have to offer customers.

Free videos are also a great gift in exchange for contact information to build one’s list, and people are experiencing if they provide quality videos they are able to establish a great connection with potential customers from the onset.

So why are videos making such a bang in today’s marketing? One look at the number of videos and traffic statistics on YouTube reveals how much of an impact video is making on our culture. People are becoming more inclined to watch a video than they are to read an article or blog. Watching a video seems more like entertainment than taking the time and brain power to read a document, and entertainment is king.

The more creative and unique you can make your video, the better. The really great videos that stand out from the rest go viral and have the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of viewers. How often does one get that many views on an article?

Another benefit to video marketing is the fact that it is quite cost-effective and easy to do once you get the hang of it. Of course, it is nice to have a program to help you along the way. Something like Traffic Geyser can guide you through the video creation and distribution process step-by-step, which totally simplifies things. However, if a program like this isn’t in the budget, you can definitely find plenty of great free tools in different places around the Internet.

While some IMers use video to show something crazy and funny and attention-grabbing, others provide a more subdued video that informs and educates the viewer. Either way, it is easier to establish a connection with your target customers through video than through a faceless ad or article. The real-life video helps them to relate to who you are as a person, which in turn builds your relationship with the viewer.

Yes, it may seem intimidating to take the first steps out to get involved in video marketing. However, don’t feel like you have to be in the IM big leagues or have had a certain level of success before you are qualified to be a video marketer.

Even a marketing newbie can create a simple video with a digital camera and upload it to a website within minutes. Start short and informative or go big and bold. Either way, you are getting your foot in the door with one of the biggest marketing tools to hit the online world, so you really can’t go wrong.
