As a continuation of our women in internet marketing series, this past week I took a look at Deborah Carney. Deborah definitely impressed me. She’s now a grandmother who started in internet marketing many years ago. She started out just like many Moms who want to or need to be at home with their kids but who can’t or don’t want to give up their ability to make money. Learn more about Deborah Carney here.
She seems like a great lady and she’s also passionate about charity (stay tuned to this blog for information on how Matt Bredel is teaming up with her to raise more money for charity). Learning about her start and her success in retail affiliate marketing and seeing where she’s at today excites me about my own future as I grow and learn more about ways to put the power of the web to good (and profitable) use.
When I started off looking for work at home job I was on one year maternity leave. I had grown accustomed to the lower maternity pay and decided I just needed to supplement the family income and make what I’d been making on my maternity leave (about $400 a week) because I didn’t want to go back to the toxic corporate IT environment I’d seen my employer turn into after Y2K.
I used to love my job and I thrived on challenges and I’m so lucky that I didn’t just find a work at home ‘job’. If I had, I probably would’ve slunk back to the corporate world in search of fire and passion. I’m lucky that instead of just looking for a work at home telecommuting job I instead started my own home-based business. I now know I’d never have been satisfied just working a few hours a day typing from home or something like that. Three years later I’m making multiple streams of income from internet marketing, blogging, freelance writing, and consulting. And the internet is my oyster so I can grow and evolve as often as I want to. I’m my own boss, and I’ve paid it forward by helping many other people create their own online income. It feels great.
Some of the things the world of internet marketing brings out in me are drive, ambition and passion in what I do. Some days are harder than others and sometimes I miss the office parties, medical benefits and yes, even the cubicle farm with all the prairie dogs to chat with but (that’s what Twitter is for!) if you’re on the fence about launching your own online business, let me tell you this:
1. It’s very hard work
2. It’s SO worth it
At the risk of sounding corny, I just have to say:
The internet can be your oyster!
Cheers,
Dana

My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company as an electrical engineer until one day I had the I found a $50 eBook and began my internet marketing career... sort of! The first few months I lost my shirt! I did everything wrong and really tried to re-invent the internet marketing wheel. Big mistake!
