Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

Most people in Internet marketing understand the importance of taking the right steps to promote their online business. With techniques like search engine optimization, pay-per-click, link building and social media, there is much that can be done to pull in the traffic and get the right kind of exposure for your sites and products.

However, even if you are familiar with these IM tactics, it can be challenging to know exactly how to put them into action for your purposes. ShoeMoney Tools is one such way you can turn ideas into action with easy-to-use tools that can help you to maximize your websites’ target market magnetic power.

Whether you are just getting starting with your first websites or have been plugging away in the IM world for some time now, ShoeMoney offers a valuable service to people who need easy access to web promotion tools that can help them to increase ROI.

Jeremy Schoemaker is the creator of the Internet marketing membership site and offers complete access to his program for $99.95 per month. Among the tools available on the site are the following categories: SEO, Link Building, Social Media, and PPC. On his website, Schoemaker also offers video tutorials to walk new members through the tools and how to use them.

The really cool thing is that you can actually try out the tools for yourself with Schoemaker’s free 3-day trial, which allows you to access the site and all of the tools in their entirety. Below is a sampling of some of the ways you can benefit your online business action plan with ShoeMoney Tools:
• Try out the Backlink Analyzer and Find Backlinks tools to determine who is linking to specific sites, and then learn the keyword and linking info for those sites.
• With the Outbound Links tool you can identify the sites being linked from a domain.
• Use the Domain MarketPlace to find available domains with active links.
• The Keyword Density and Tracker tools provide a way to compare keywords and domains against competitors and keep track of how your personal keyword placement is working for you.
• The Text Optimizer allows you to take article text or a specific webpage and determine the SEO metrics.
• Use the Twitter Account Maker to take full advantage of social marketing.

Is it possible to find these tools elsewhere? Possibly. But it is highly unlikely to find them all in one place. Furthermore, the guidance you can receive through the ShoeMoney Forum and Schoemaker’s tutorials cut back significantly on the time and energy necessary to effectively utilize such tools.

While the cost may be somewhat prohibitive to the IM newbie, the ShoeMoney Tools membership is a worthwhile investment that can play a major role in helping your business to rise to the top.
