Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! I kind of threw that out there too fast, didn’t I? Believe it or not, it really is quite simple to do. No, you don’t even need to know XML to do it, either. And yes, it is very similar to HTML in structure, just simplied. Still, you really don’t need to know a thing about XML to set this up. Here is the trick! Go to:
This website will essentially create the entire sitemap for you. All you need to do is put you main website address in the box and it will literally spider your entire account (to multiple levels of depth) and output the XML for you, in the format that Google Sitemaps accepts. It really is too easy! (Yes, for some sites, the spider may take a little while, but it is a good excuse to go and get another cup of coffee!).
So all you have to do it first verify that you are the owner of the website by uploading an empty file with the filename that Google Sitemaps provides you. Once the site is verified, add a new sitemap using the file that XML-Sitemaps has created. And you are done! The sitemap may take up to an hour to get read and useable results usually won’t start appearing for a week or so (or until your site gets spidered again). Still, this simple 10 minute excerise will provide you with GOBS AND GOBS of information about your website for free! And I hear rumors that there are a lot more tools being added soon, too.
