Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

I have actually had this nightmare before as an internet marketer!

You know, the one where launch day comes and you think everything is all set and then just before the gates open, something major has gone wrong!

I’ve been doing my best to promote the new Stomping the Search Engines 2.0 (because I’ve seen it and it is a MUST HAVE for anyone in this business or thinking of learning this business).

At first, I found it frustrating to find the shopping cart open time changing in hour increments.  Heck, I have written to those who joined my newsletters, I twittered all day about it and created a handful of videos hyping the opening.

Yet, it is now 4 hours since the “first” launch time and the Stomping the Search Engines 2.0 website no longer promises an open time.  In fact, it appears that it won’t open until tomorrow.

At this point, though, I just feel bad about the whole situation and the entire StomperNet team that worked so hard to create such a big launch.  You can sense the frustration directly from Andy Jenkins in his personal twitter throughout the day (at  http://twitter.com/AndyJenkins).

Don’t be mad at them, though. Things like this happen and the offer will still be available (probably tomorrow).  On a good note, this is probably a good thing for all of you.  I am sure the bonuses will be bigger and better.  In fact, I am watching Andy’s twitter right now and it looks like a new video will be up in about 30 minutes to explain what went on (you should be able to watch it here:  http://www.matthewbredel.com/stomp2).

So for those of you who followed me on this one and were left to a temporary dead end, I’m sorry!

For the crew at StomperNet, I can only imagine the stress a day like this would have brought!

And for those still interested (which should be ALL OF YOU!), you can put your name on the Stomping the Search Engines email update list (this is not a subscription and they won’t be marketing from this email list…trust me!…right now, they are just trying to salvage the disaster of the day).  You can sign up here.

cheers…matt

One Response to “Stompernet’s Worst Nightmare…”

  1. Hey Matt,

    I know what you mean. I can only imagine what it must have been like at Stompernet trying to get everything up and running for the launch!

    I know from my own experience there’s nothing worse than having something go wrong at the last minute when people are waiting.

    On the plus side (for international people), it appears that they’re going to be lowering the shipping rates for international customers (according to a tweet from Dan Thies)

    Later,
    Shannon
