Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

When it comes to SEO (or search engine optimization), more is typically better. That being said, the tools that are now available can take that theory to whole new levels. Black hatters may love it, but what about reputable online businesses? Should we fear these advanced SEO tools or embrace them? Here I talk about SENuke, and my shocking experience with the SEO tool.

After 6 months of using and debating about whether to write an SENuke Review, I finally broke down and did it.  What’s the big deal anyway, right?  I write reviews of online money making tools for a living, right?

Last summer, I remember sitting at a mastermind meeting talking about SEO with a few local internet marketing friends.  One guy, known as Black Hat Chuck, was kind of sitting there laughing at the rest of us talking about all of the article submission tools, social bookmarking tools, foreign linkbuilders that we hire, etc…

And let me digress here a second and make a few statements…

1) SEO DOES work.  In fact, I have built a number of online businesses based on free organic search engine traffic.

2) How did I do it?  One MAJOR factor was article writing and submission.  I wrote quality articles, tried to keep them unique and submitted them to a variety of strategy article directories.

3) Times they are a’changin’!  (And in some ways, even easier!) With social bookmarking and social media, building link popularity can build rather quickly and at many levels (i.e., I find a lot of my own articles ranking now, not just my money site).

So knowing this, I have adapted over the years with similar, if not more success.  The problem was managing it.  I have more websites, there are more tasks to do and I have more things to submit to.  That was the conversation we were having…how to manage our SEO efforts.

We all knew what to do, but it was going to be a lot of work doing it right.

Black Hat Chuck just said “I have SENuke do it for me”.  Of course, when the black hat artist talks, we always listen.  We asked the questions:

“It takes so long just creating accounts…” - Answer: SENuke automatically will do that.

“What about duplicate content?…” - Answer: SENuke has some killer spinning tools and partners that can create rather quality unique content at mass levels.

“How about social bookmarking and social media?…” - Answer:  Again, it will create your profiles AND submit your articles to the various bookmarking and social media sites.

“But they don’t submit to any of the major sites, right?…” - Answer:  You bet they do!  And it is not done in the background, either.  A browser will literally appear on your screen and the tool will perform all of the keystrokes for you to make it look like a real person.  It will even do CAPTCHA codes at about 1 cent per use.

“Will it submit videos, too?…” - Answer: Yep!  And to the major ones, too, like YouTube and Yahoo…and then you can bookmark it and social media “it” with a click of the mouse, just like the articles.  Heck, you can cross-link your videos and articles automatically!

“Is this black hat, Chuck?…” - Answer:  The way I use it, it is.

Hmmm…so I had my concerns.  But it sounded like everything I was looking for.  So I joined up (SENuke has a 7 Day Free Trial Here).

At first, I didn’t know what the heck was going on.  I downloaded the software onto my computer (and that went smoothly).  But when I first started it, I was lost.  So I went and spent about an 1 hour watching their training videos.  That worked! And just like Black Hat Chuck told us, it did it all.

But here is where I deviate a bit and the reason why I am suggesting this tool. SENuke CAN be used with good intention and over the past 6 months, my SEO has never been stronger.  I have been getting my money terms ranked in top page one positions in a matter of days.  But I have been using it similar to how I did SEO in the past.

The submission process is still a bit the same as before.  It is the added layers of social media and social bookmarking plus the high quality spinning capability that has expanded my SEO efforts with, in fact, less work than before.

I still only do this once per website per week (like I always did) and this is how I recommend those clients of mine to use the tool, too.  It is VERY POWERFUL and because of that, it can be used with the wrong intention.

So let me explain what I use SENuke now in a nutshell…

  • I no longer use an article submitter tool (there are plenty of good ones out there, but no need to with SENukem).
  • I used to use a free bookmarking service like SocialBookmarker, which is OK and free, but doesn’t seem as effective because of the “digital footprint” it leaves behind.  Please, it took a bit of time to do.
  • I now have less versions of an article written and pass my current articles through a service called Human Spinner.  For about $10, I can have a 500 word article spun 3 times at the sentence level.  This can ultimately produce a large number of relatively unique articles.  (Mind You, I still do my own articles or save my best outsourced articles specifically for my website or the article accounts that are important to me, like my eZineArticles account).
  • I can now dynamically link both current and past articles using the SENuke URL Manager tool. This builds unbelievable  SEO foundations and helps my SEO articles get ranked, too.
  • I use the Video Nuke portion of the SENuke to distribute my video content even more (as well as cross-link it with my articles).  I still use other video syndication tools for my main video accounts, but this Video Nuke is great for Video SEO practices.

“Matt - Does this make you an SEO Black Hatter?”

I don’t think so!  The tasks I use SENuke for are essentially what I have done in the past.  I am not trying to overwhelm the system or lesson the integrity of the internet.  It is just a fact that SEO is built on backlinks, popularity, and “nature”.

This is the trick to using SENuke correctly and not for evil ways: Natural link-building.  As long as you use the tool as it is intended, you will produce quality backlinks that look natural (and it won’t get you into trouble!).

If you use SENuke for “evil”, you can generate uncountable links in a short amount of time resulting in fast rankings, but ultimately Google, article sites and social media will catch on and ban you for good.

Take this for what it’s worth.  I was nervous about first using the product and then even sharing it with others, but on the other hand, it is a tool you should know about and even give a try if getting ranked in Google or other search engines is a goal of yours.

And remember that if you are not using it, your competition probably already is (and I found that out myself about 3 months ago!).
