Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

(MWard) I would love to generate traffic via my website to set up in home sales appointments. What are the differences between what you are teaching concerning affiliate mktg and a service industry?

Your question is concerning what I teach versus using a service to generate traffic (ultimately leads) for your business.  I am going to keep this generic, but it will apply to a lot of the programs you can buy on the internet about traffic, conversion and online marketing.

What I teach at places like TruGuru.com is more than just affiliate marketing.  This is just a piece of the whole online environment.  Yes, I have had successes in affiliate marketing and that is how I started (plus, it is one of the lowest risk ventures with high rewards, which appeals to most new online marketers).  But I have had success doing other things like selling products, lead generation, advertising revenue, email marketing, etc.  Most of these things require internet traffic to be successful.  Plus, once you get this customers to your site, you need to convert them into buyers (conversion).

That is much of the holy grail of success online:  traffic and conversion.  Both of these I teach (as well as others).  I teach by both instruction (how to set these things up) and example (showing you how *I* set things up and the results that I got).  Traffic usually comes in the forms of SEO (free search engine traffic), Pay-Per-Click (like Google Adwords), Social Media (like YouTube, Blogs, Facebook, etc.) and countless other processes.  In this case, I show you how to effectively do this.

In contrast, you can also hire a service to do this.  *IF* the service knows what they are doing and they are spending the time to do it, this could be a great way to go.  I say this with caution, though!  When it comes to traffic, it is usually not trivial and the things that many services do are not necessarily worth a damn.  They may “submit to search engines” or “create backlinks” or “create PPC campaigns”, but if they are not done correctly, you will find that the traffic will be low or worthless.  (It is easy to get 100,000 hits to a website, but if NONE of them buy, is it worth it?).

Plus, just because you have traffic doesn’t mean you can convert them to customers.  Conversion is just as essential.

Personally, this is what I think:  You SHOULD educate yourself on the different methods of traffic generation AND conversion.  At that point, you can choose what you want to outsource as well as ask the “right” questions to the service providers willing to help.  I have spend years finding the “right” services and 9 times out of 10 they don’t work.  The people who do this work for me are under my direction and strategy OR I pay them a considerable amount (because doing these jobs CORRECTLY is usually not trivial…and that this how THEIR business model is usually set up:  as a turn-key solution for them, not you).

  1. With Google voice, you can add a house or business office phone to be associated to that one number. So if you answer your cellular phone you can in reality seamlessly transport the call to the house or office and the caller will never know. That will spare your cellular minutes.
