Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Best Keyword Research Tool?

The best tool to use for keyword research. I know how to find short term ones (1 to 3 words) but what about longer phrases? Looking for a free one (which I know is limited), but would be interested in paying for a QUALITY tool. Would like to know what you recommend. Thank you. (Bill)

Hey Bill,

In my opinion, there are three “tools” that I use for my keyword research.

Google Keyword Research Tool

I always start with the simple Google Keyword Research tool.  It is free and it provides an abundant wealth of information (especially since most of us are targeting Google anyway). Here you can find some decent long tail keywords.

Market Samurai

The next step (or tool) that I use is Market Samurai.  I LOVE this tool!  It is a one time purchase (and quite affordable!) and incorporates a lot of the Google Keyword Research tool but goes above and beyond.  You’ll get more SEO and PPC analysis on the keywords plus more statistics about its competitiveness and it effectiveness.  There are also the other SEO tools, article & social research and affiliate tools that makes this tool not only a killer keyword tool, but a great general research and affiliate tool, too. (Market Samurai usually offers some pretty good free trial software, too, just to check it out!  Go here.)

Wordtracker

As a final (and most thorough step), you can go and check out Wordtracker.  This is a membership based tool but it is really insightful, especially when it comes to find long tail keywords.  In the past, I will usually join for about a month and then try to get all of my keyword tasks in that I have collected over the months.  Personally, I find the tool a little more complicated than the others, but then again, it is just more complex and deeper than the other two, as well.  I think you can trial it for the first 7 days for free (though you will need to cancel out before the trial if you don’t want to be charged.  There is more details about this here.

  2. Although article marketing is basically free to do, it’s definitely a good idea to purchase automation tools. Article spinning and submitter tools are the best ones you can acquire that will massively facilitate you leverage your article marketing campaigns.

  3. I totally agree about automation tools, even outsourcing, for some of your article marketing efforts. You can do it yourself, but it is usually quite affordable and efficient to invest in some tools and people to do some of the work for you! cheers…matt

  5. I was trying to search for reviews on Market Samurai and your site was on first page. Recently, I just bought a training course to promote Amazon products and Maket samurai tool was mentioned by the author but as an option. From your description above, I can now understand why and what the author is trying to teach us newbies on SEO traffic.
