Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

For the beginning of the year, I feel inclined to do the cliche task of making a New Year’s Resolution list.  Sure, I have my personal resolutions such as losing weight, spending more time with the family, and reading more books, but that is SO boring!  Yes, I do plan on doing all of those things this year, but my ultimate goal from a business standpoint is, of course, MAKE MORE MONEY!

My goal for 2008 is to at LEAST double my online earnings from last year.  YES, this is quite a bold statement (and almost an arrogant one at that), but I think it can be achievable.  I did it last year, so why can’t I do it this year?  (Of course, using this philosophy, I should expect to make $6.4 million dollars per year before the age of 40…hmmm…let’s just focus on 2008!)

How am I going to do this?  Here I sit down and list my top five MUST’s for 2008 to help achieve my goal for the year:

1)  MORE SOCIAL MARKETING!  - I feel like I cannot catch up with Social Marketing these days and it is slowly passing me by.  In the past I have relied heavily on SEO tactics and Pay-Per-Click advertising.  Yes, both of these are highly effective, but in order to address the needs of future traffic, I need to start social marketing more effectively (or in my case, just more…a lot more!)

2)  MORE OUTSOURCING! - Can you believe that I actually spent 6 hours copying and pasting content from one website to another over the holiday break?  That is right!  I could have taught my 4 year old daughter to do this task and she would have gladly accepted a $15 DVD of Cinderella II in return.  Being able to identify tasks  that can be outsourced cheaply is something we all need to be more disciplined about!  (If ANYONE is doing their own directory submissions, STOP and outsource it right this very minute!)

3)  MORE VIDEOS! - Actually, I am not too bad at producing videos.  I think I am better than most.  Creating NetWebVideo taught me a lot about video production and I hope to start including a few tutorials about creating your own videos for NetWebVideo.  Still, creating videos for marketing purposes is something I have totally overlooked.  We all need to start taking advantage of the video age of the internet (including sites like YouTube, Google Videos, and Blip.Tv).

4)  FRESH CONTENT! -  I have to admit, I was getting a bit lazy throughout 2007.  I am so driven to create new products and websites that I forget to focus on new content for my established sites.  It is very easy to neglect a website that is bringing in a lot of revenue with little to no effort.  Still, search engines will pick up on this and ultimately your SEO rankings and PPC quality scores will suffer.  Because of this, I am devoting most of the first quarter of the year entirely on renovations and new content creation.

5) A NEW PRODUCT OR VENTURE! - In many cases, you will find that the law of diminishing returns holds strongly on the internet.   Unless you are building a monsterous website that is going to change the internet as we know it, we are usually forced to grow by expansion of multiple streams of income.  Some argue that you should create a new site once every quarter.  For most of us, that is fairly hard especially if we do not have the financial resources to outsource most of the labor.  Still, it is healthy to have multiple streams of income generation not only from a growth perspective, but a trend perspective.  I am sure you may hear your financial adviser pound the concept of diversification into your mind.  The same goes true online.  Seasonal trends, Google Sandboxes and Slaps, and Market Slides can cause instability in income.  Having multiple ventures in various markets solidifies your income while generating another portal for making more money online.

BONUS RESOLUTION:

With all of these great goals for wealth and expansion, there is always one underlining goal that must not be ignored: LIFESTYLE.  It is easy to get caught up with making money online building these online empires, but at the end of the day we all aim to live our “perfect” lifestyle.  For me, this includes spending more time with my family, saving for my future, taking more vacations and just spending a little bit of quiet time to myself.  Dave Taylor has it right when he preaches the fact that we should work for our lifestyle and not for money.  (Do we live to work or work to live?)  Personally, I choose “Work to Live”.  And by declaring this, I may contradict the first 5 MUSTS of 2008, but then again, what is my real goal in life?

Simple:  TO BE HAPPY!

  1. Internet marketing is nothing but connectivity with the end user. Making the right moves at the right time is a must in this field. I am sure,soft skills will come in handy during the business . The most important thing is staying alive with the current trend.

  2. i am not belive any person.i am belive thehonesty man.which dependent upon.

  3. just like business matter.

  4. Matt, Matt, Matt,

    How simplistic is that, “to be happy.” What a wonderful goal! I too, have that goal.
    But… it is very difficult to be happy with so many “wolves” at your door. Wolves such as, unexpected illness and medical bills, a car that no longer runs, having your job outsourced, AND the worst one of all>>>
    joining an affiliate program that kept no program guarantees.That spells doom and gloom for a newbie.
    But with strong preseveration,I will keep moving forward and I sense goodness will prevail.

    I wish everyone peace, health and prosperity for the new year.

    No more rambling on,
    Sylvia

    PS You should have included a few good,reasonably priced directory submissions programs that you know to be reliable.
