Changing the Font & Style of Your H1 Tags

QUESTION: (Rhonda) I am having problems changing the font size of my H1text. Is this very important? If so, how do I go about changing it?

Changing the text and/or style of an H1 tag is simple in CSS.  It does not affect anything other than how the visitor sees it though (i.e., if you use a large font, it means nothing more than a smaller font, in SEO terms or how Google sees it).

You can change the H1 tag locally or in the CSS definition file.

If you want to change all of the H1 tag settings in your entire website, you would do this in the CSS file:

h1 {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would use the h1 tag as you normally would:
<h1>This is my H1 tag</h1>

You can define a class in the CSS file which allows you to define your new style whenever you wish anywhere on the site:

.h1style {
font-size: 24px;
}

You would add this class to your h1 tag, when you wish it:

<h1 class=”h1style”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

* Remember to add the “.” when defining it in the CSS to classify it as a class.

Finally, you can do it locally using a style attribute (without the CSS file):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px;”>This is my H1 Tag</h1>

All of the above do the exact same thing.  Their use is based on how often you use the style and how you want it defined (whether globally or locally).

Also, remember you can add other styles to the same definition (like color):

<h1 style=”font-size:24px; color:red;”>This is my H1 Tag that is Red and 24px high</h1>

I find that being able to change the styles of my text for header and other standard tags to be quite invaluable!  Knowing a little bit of CSS can go a long way.  Give this a try!

The easiest thing to try first is the local definition using the style attribute. If this is working for you, consider creating or editing your own CSS file!

Good luck!  cheers…matt

Who is Behind Marketing Mind?

Matthew Bredel begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlightingMy name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer. For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...

I’m almost there! The dream…you know the one I am talking about: Being able to work anywhere in the world. For the first time, I am testing out the internet theory of managing an online business from 7487 miles away. Does it work? Here’s my update…

I will bet that 99.9% of you that read this post won’t have a clue where Tuggeranong is, and further, many of you probably didn’t know that Canberra (located in the Australian Capital Territory or A.C.T.) is the capital of Australia.

I’ll be honest, before I met my wife I didn’t know either of these places either.  But over the last 8 years, Australia and Canberra have become a huge part of my life.

If you also asked me just 4 years ago what affiliate marketing or search engine optimization where, I would probably have given you that same blank stare.

We grow and we learn, and over time the two biggest things in my life (my Australian connections and my online businesses) have finally collided.

Last time I was here was about 3 years ago at a time where I still worked a 9-5 job, TheWebReviewer.com was starting to make some money and the dream of building a business that would allow me more time in the southern hemisphere was starting to build in my mind.

I admit, I haven’t been back as much as I wanted (but I didn’t expect to have a 3rd child, either!).  But here I am.

Was I going to be able to manage two online companies from 7487 miles (WikiAnswers) away? I worried about this, I have to admit.

But really, it has been pretty good!  The virtual internet money-making machine still keeps pumping despite where I am physically located.  A few emails here and there and some customer support take up an hour during my mornings, but a nice flat white coffee and a view of the beach makes it enjoyable.

This is one reason for fighting so hard in internet marketing.  Yes, it is a business and unlike a 9-5 day job, you really just can’t walk away from it and forget it, but the mobility of it in this day and age opens doors to experience life that much more.

Do I wish I could turn off my “internet” for 4 weeks?  Sure I do. But the 1-hour per day price-to-pay is well worth the rewards.

Remember this.

The “perfect” dream of making money while doing nothing and vacationing around the world is still a myth…but the “real” lifestyle is not that far off.

Once you create it, you learn to manage it, and finally let IT take care of itself.

cheers…matt
