A few days ago I went out to my mailbox and was surprised to find a package sitting there from Google, Inc. Hmmm. Wonder what it is! So I quickly open the box to find a 2GB Zip Drive. It was kind of cool. It was in the shape of a credit card and had the Google logo centered on the front. But I kept looking to see what else they sent, and there was nothing.
“Those cheap bastards! I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars on their Adwords program this year and the most they are going to send me is stupid zip drive with their name plastered all over it?”
I threw it on my desk and went back to bitterly working on some marketing stuff. I even started to ponder: “Maybe I should reduce my bidding to get back.” (I didn’t do this, but I really considered it!)
……………..
For a couple of weeks, I have been planning a little promotion on TheWebReviewer to give a free physical book to anyone that buys the Worldwide Brands‘ Onesource product. Of course, the idea has a promotional aspect around it, but in reality by giving away the book, I gain nothing financially (and it costs me a lot of time). Still, I was in the giving spirit and felt this would be something fun for the holidays to try out!
On the day of the promotion, I sent out to my list and the response was rather respectable and a handful of people took advantage of the offer. That is great! And they all seemed very happy about it. But at the same time, I must have received a dozen emails telling me how much of a marketing slimeball that I am and there is nothing generous about tying a free gift to a product purchase. This hurt my feelings. I wrote everyone back and I (hope) resolved this resentment.

Last night as I looked at the Google Zip Drive again, I thought to myself: “I’m such a thankless SOB!” The funny thing is that if Google did not send me a thing, I would not have thought twice about. I did not even expect it. The gift probably has a value of $20. That is really nice. And considering the number of clients they have probably send this to, I am sure this cost them a good share of cash (which they did not need to give to anyone).
I want to officially THANK Google for sending me the nice gift. I will use it, too and hope that our business relationship continues strong for years to come.
As for visitors to TheWebReviewer, I totally understand what you were getting at. I am skeptical about a lot of things online, too. My intention is not to find some way of weaseling money out of people, but to provide more value for their purchase. Take it as you will, though. And today, I am trying it one more time. If you have been contemplating purchasing Worldwide Brands’ Onesource product, you can buy it at a discounted price plus receive a copy of Skip McGrath’s Three Weeks to eBay Products.
Is there a marketing strategy around this? Of course!
And who are the winners?
1) You - By receiving two great products for a discounted price and value
2) Worldwide Brands - They will hopefully receive more orders for their great product
3) Me - I just feel good because I can offer this.
Worldwide Brands OneSource Offer
Tis the season to give…cheers…matt

My name is Matthew Bredel and as of March, 2007, I am a full-time, work-at-home internet marketer.
For close to 10 years, I worked for a defense company which was an OK job, but I was so uninspired in life and frankly, I needed some more money. That is when I first discovered internet marketing! Now I admit that I didn't start making thousands in my first couple of months (in fact, I lost my shirt!), but I finally saw the "internet light"...
